When was the last time you overcame something?
Maybe it was a situation that had you worried, an obstacle you thought you couldn’t push past.

Remember how you felt once you got through it?
Relieved? Confident? Surprised at your own grit?

That’s one of the reasons I love working on my strength and fitness—it’s not just physical. Every session is a mental challenge. Pushing through fatigue, trying to better my last effort, and enjoying the sense of accomplishment of getting it done.

At our gym here in Castle Hill, we just celebrated clients who averaged 3 or more sessions per week over the last 3 months. Sure, we love PBs and big wins, but consistency? That’s what we celebrate the most.

Why? Because the formula for progress and hitting those PBs is simple: consistent effort. Three shorter sessions a week will always beat one all out session each week in the long run.

This morning, while doing my own mindset work, I came across the concept of Separation Season—a term Ed Mylett uses. It’s that time when most people start to slow down, pull back, or give in to comfort. But for those who lean in and stretch a little further, it’s an opportunity to separate themselves from the average.

Think about it: winter rolls in, it’s dark, it’s cold, and the couch and Netflix look inviting. The alarm goes off and staying in bed for “just 15 more minutes” feels easy. But that’s exactly when the real rewards come.

Just last week, a client of mine—who’s been training consistently three times a week for more than five years—told me she’s using the winter as a 12-week prep for spring. She’s dialling in her food, staying on top of her training, and focusing on sleep. That’s the mindset of someone who’s ready to separate themselves from the average.

Doing what’s easy only keeps you stuck. But choosing to lean into the hard stuff? That’s where you build confidence. That’s where you stretch, grow, and feel the real sense of accomplishment.

Here’s the thing: habits formed when things are hard are the ones that stick. People often wait for the “right time” to start training, but when time gets tight, those habits tend to fall away. Flip it—start now, when it’s harder, and you’ll likely find more time as you start feeling better, with more energy and better sleep.

That’s where we come in. At GSD, our job is to help you overcome those challenges, find time to train consistently, and enjoy the satisfaction that comes from it.
